McLymont Creek Run of the River

Hydroelectric Project

J. Phoenix EPC Management Group Inc., acted as Prime Contractor for the McLymont Creek Hydroelectric Project which was successfully completed in 2015. This state-of-the-art construction was designed with two main phases: the intake structures and the powerhouse. The project harnessed energy produced by the natural flow and elevation change of the river to produce and deliver clean, renewable power with minimal impact on the natural environment. The 66 MW run of the river plant is located on a tributary on the north bank of the Iskut River, located about 100km north of Smithers BC. The design and construction of the Intake facility comprised a 24m long by 3.5m high inflatable rubber weir, a 6m wide primary sluice, a 2m wide secondary sluice, and a headrace canal directing a design discharge of 30 cubic meters/second. This project, which was completed on time and within budget, received Clean Energy BC Project Excellence Award 2015.
